Childhood Sweethearts from the Beginning
          The little Fox Hybrid girl padded her way around the playground obliviously. She never understood why her parents brought her here, although it was rarely, she came to the park alone. She had no siblings or friends, not like she had an attitude she just didn't make friends easy. Coming here was a constant reminder of her lack of companions, but she was used to it, she'd watch the other kids play, and although her normal instinct told her to reach out and join in, she stayed behind, and watched from the shadows.
        Today was slow, there were few kids, so she made her ways to the swings hoping to clear her mind once again as she usually did and come up with some new ideas. The Black Furred girl sat herself down on the swing set, and swung herself back and forth, letting the steady movement of the wind lure her to close her eyes.
     The swing creaked loudly every time she hit the midpoint, she imagined jumping off the swing with the force being strong enough to throw her into the air, into the clouds, for her to land on one, but only to be let down when the cloud gave way and drop her, the landing would be ugly, she immediately took the thought away and opened her eyes. She didn't want to risk having a nightmare, and climbed off the swing slowly. Shaking herself to where her 3 tails shook afterward she made her way forward to the slides. She was going to sit in the opening since no one was on the slide anyway. When she made her way to the slide she looked through the opening and screamed, she heard the echo and laughed to herself. Just as she was about to sit she stiffened and twitched her ears when she heard footsteps at the top of the slide. She turned herself around and looked up the slide again.
"Is anyone up there…? "She asked quietly, her voice echoed in the slide again.
If anyone heard her she was ignored, because the footsteps got louder and turned into a high squeal as whoever was up there began to slide down. Unprepared, Vegas let out a surprised squeal as the rider slid down.
"Woooowhooo! "The slider yelled as he made his way to the bottom.
"Eek! "Squealed the fox girl as the slider came down and landed onto her face with a hard impact that sent them both tumbling.
"Wh-whoa! "said the surprised slider.
The Black furred girl had gotten a glimpse of the slider, all she saw was a blue furred boy with tan markings, dizzy from tumbling, she made an attempt to stop herself and the boy from tumbling too hard. She dug her feet into the ground causing her to stop, the boy right afterward, but he stopped right on top of her to where their noses were touching. She finally got full sight of the boy when she looked up; he had emerald green eyes and was all blue furred with a tan muzzle. The boy blinked hard and confused along with the girl, then they realized their noses were touching and threw each other off.
"Hey! ", he said standing, ", you okay? That was a tough landing." the boy was brushing himself off and didn't even look at the girl as he did so.
The girl shook off her fur; her leg stung a bit, but if it didn't bleed there was no worry, that's what she thought.
"Uh huh…yeah I'm good." The girl murmured silently.
"Huh, that was a really hard landing, your stronger than I thought; I expected you to cry or somethin'," the boy replied coolly.
That comment hit a spark inside the girl but she didn't know what it was, her instinct was to retaliate on the comment but her normal nature told her to just ask questions.
"How did you…how did you get into the slide…" she asked, ", when I looked no one was there. "  ,her question came as low as a whisper but it was still a normal tone.
"Well,", the boy started, finally done brushing himself off, "I went up the stairs and down the slide…I don't know how to explain any more than that." the boy gave off a smile and held out his hand, , ",and since I rammed into you without warning, and you've shown yourself to be pretty tough, you deserve to know my name at least, I'm Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog."
The girl grabbed Sonic's hand slowly and shook it.
"You seriously look younger than me and took that hit, what's your name?" he asked cheerfully.
The girl flinched; she has never gotten this far into a conversation before to where someone asked for her name.
"…I'm Vegas…Vegas the…" she trailed off, Vegas was a lot of things…
"Huh? C'mon! 'Vegas the...' well?! ", Sonic exclaimed excitedly.
Vegas looked away, this was her normal reaction to any awkward questions, if she didn't look them in the eye maybe they would change the subject or leave.
"Well if you aren't gonna tell me your species at least tell me your age, you owe me for the extra 'hedgehog' I so kindly told you I was," Vegas was about to respond but the Sonic said something again, ", actually since I'm ultra nice I'll give you a bonus and tell you my age! I'm  5 years old! ", exclaimed Sonic cheerfully.
"I-I'm 3… I'm 3 years old," Vegas replied quietly.
"Your 3 and took that hit?!" Sonic exclaimed, "your WAY stronger than I thought!"
"Uh… yeah…" Vegas said quietly.
Sonic then turned his head to the sky and narrowed his eyes; he looked at Vegas then pointed to the direction of an old tire set in the distance.
"See that? ", Sonic asked, "were going over there."
Confused and surprised at the speed he was offering to play Vegas looked at him shockingly but didn't say anything.
"What? You want me to go into detail? " ,Sonic asked irritably, "I wanna play with you, can't make it anymore blunt than that. "
Vegas, still confused and dizzy after that stumble replied, "B-but that tire swing in dangerous and old and big and…" Vegas trailed off when she caught an exasperated groan from Sonic in the middle of her rambling.
"Do you actually think were just gonna swing on that tire? " Sonic asked sarcastically, "BORING! Don't be boring! Think outside the box! What else could we do with that 'ol rickety tire?"
Vegas was still confused how this older boy was so quick to make friends with a 3 year old he ran into on a slide, but Vegas had to admit she was great at imagining and let her thoughts drift, she saw a spaceship adventure, an adventure story, an Olympic completion….
"Well! " Sonic exclaimed, throwing Vegas out of her dreaming. Vegas had an idea but she was hesitant to share it. She tried to keep the idea contained but it was let out.
"We could… have a competition!" Vegas exclaimed.
Sonic just looked at her as if she were crazy. What? He wanted a game or an idea and he got one, what else is wrong?
"No wonder your three, ", Sonic groaned, ", well what kinda competition are we talking about, you can't just say you wanna challenge somebody without a thing to challenge! "
Vegas started to feel hot, Sonic was right, now she was the one jumping to ideas. Vegas gave it a second and came up with something.
"A race!"  Vegas exclaimed.
Sonic then looked interested, but then looked at her crazy again.
"Out of all the things we could do with that tire you want to race to it? " , he asked sarcastically, " I like that simple mind of yours!"
Vegas gave an awkward laugh and Sonic trotted to the other side of her, in a position that showed he was ready to run. Vegas got in the same position; she felt a surge of confidence. Around her father they would constantly battle it out and Vegas would win some he would lose some, she was always willing to challenge anyone and felt confident of her strength and agility.
Vegas made this her chance to call the race.
"On your marks…get SET….g-, "Vegas started the stopped when a gust of wind blew her fur, she looked next to her and Sonic was already gone.
"Sonic?!" she exclaimed, but then looked forward to see Sonic already at the tire set. Vegas blinked confusingly, and made her way to the tire set, she ran, but not as fast as she could do usually. When she made it over there Sonic was sitting on the tire looking impatient.
"That took you forever." He scowled.
Vegas flinched, she could've shown that him that she could run just as fast as him but she lost that chance. Shaking her head she immediately questioned the hedgehog.
"W-What was that?! How did you get over here so fast?! You like… You liked moved at the fastness of noise!!" Vegas exclaimed.
Sonic still looked irritated.
"I wouldn't say the 'fastness of noise' more like the 'speed of sound', "he replied.
Vegas shook her head, she was so confused,
"That is SO unfair! You knew that and raced me anyways?!" Vegas squealed.
"Oh, feisty now huh?" Sonic said getting up off the tire, "look if I'm so unfair that means your gonna leave right?" Sonic asked irritably, Vegas thought she heard a hint of worry in his voice but she must've imagined it.
"No way!" Vegas exclaimed, ", this is just a new challenge! Now I have a goal to get to, and that's to beat you! "
Sonic smiled, and Vegas realized she showed a burst of energy she hadn't meant to let out, she automatically controlled herself and calmed down.
"I-I mean… you move fast…and..." Vegas stuttered.
Sonic winked and gave a thumbs up,
"Alright, if you can beat me in a race one day I will getcha something special." Sonic laughed.
Vegas shook her head; Sonic was challenging her just to get her hyped up again.
"Then again, I doubt that will ever happen since I move at the 'fastness of noise'" he laughed sarcastically.
Vegas's tails twitched with irritation and she immediately yelled.
"Okay then! I have a better game!" She exclaimed
"Well then what is it? I'm bored and you're keeping me waiting. "
Vegas thought for a second and came up with a 2 player game she was confident she could win at.
"Let's play dodgeball next." She said.
